About the Ondiri Conservation Run

The Ondiri Run (Ondiri Wetland Conservation Run) is an annual environmental event in Kenya, usually held around World Wetlands Day (Feb 2nd), focused on raising awareness and funds for protecting the Ondiri Wetland, a vital source of the Nairobi River; participants run while planting tree seedlings, connecting sport with conservation to restore this crucial ecosystem. The next one is the 5th Edition on January 31, 2026, with a goal to plant a tree for every runner, transforming the event into a "living legacy" of restoration.

What it is:

  • A conservation-focused running event.
  • A community initiative to protect Ondiri Wetland, which is key for water security.

Key Activities:

  • Running: Various distances for participants.
  • Tree Planting: Each runner gets a seedling to plant, making it an act of restoration.
  • Conservation Concerts & Exhibitions: Events leading up to the run to educate the public.

When & Where:

  • Typically held in early February, celebrating World Wetlands Day.
  • The upcoming event is the 5th Edition on January 31, 2026, starting at the wetland and finishing at Alliance High School grounds.

Who Organizes:

Friends of Ondiri Wetland (FOWK) is a key organizer, aiming to restore the wetland's health. Come experience one of Kiambu County's most spectacular natural ecosystems — Ondiri Wetland.

All participants in the Conservation Run will receive a medal. Official event T-shirts will be available for purchase at:
