Early this morning, the National Defence College, Friends of Ondiri Wetland Kenya, and Alliance High School joined hands in a transformative tree-growing exercise under our flagship, "Green a School Project."

Together, we planted a new forest of indigenous tree species as part of our ongoing effort to restore healthy ecosystems by gradually replacing water-intensive and ecologically harmful species such as eucalyptus and Acacia mearnsii (commonly known as black wattle). These invasive and non-native species are known to deplete groundwater, degrade soils, and threaten biodiversity, including vital bird habitats.

This important initiative reflects our shared commitment to ecosystem restoration, climate action, and environmental stewardship. By planting indigenous trees, we are enhancing water conservation, improving soil health, creating habitat for birds and other wildlife, and safeguarding the environment for future generations.

The event also marked the final environmental activity for Course 28 (2025/2026) of the National Defence College, providing a meaningful and lasting legacy of conservation and service to the nation.
