Dudu Walk at Ondiri Wetland Explores Biodiversity Through Citizen Science

Yesterday, Friends of Ondiri Wetland hosted a truly fascinating Dudu Walk at Ondiri Wetland, bringing together nature lovers, conservationists, researchers and citizen scientists for an up-close exploration of the incredible biodiversity hidden within our wetland.

Held in partnership with the Insect Committee of Nature Kenya, National Museums of Kenya, Nature Kenya and Mount Kenya Mountain Club (MONAC), the event turned Ondiri into a living outdoor classroom.

Participants explored the aquatic insects of Ondiri Swamp through the Home River Bioblitz, discovering the fascinating world of dragonflies, damselflies and other aquatic insects — tiny creatures that can tell us so much about the health of our freshwater ecosystems.

And the adventure did not stop there!

Nature Kenya also led an exciting bird-watching activity, giving participants an opportunity to observe and appreciate the diverse birdlife that calls Ondiri Wetland home. From the smallest insects to the birds soaring above the wetland, yesterday was a powerful reminder that Ondiri is a thriving ecosystem where every species has a role to play.

For Friends of Ondiri Wetland, this is what conservation is about — creating opportunities for people to experience nature, ask questions, gather knowledge and develop a deeper responsibility to protect our ecosystems.
