What 100 Days of Tree Planting Taught Me

Five years ago today, I completed one of the most meaningful personal environmental journeys of my life: planting one tree every single day for 100 consecutive days.

What began as a simple commitment grew into a powerful lesson in consistency, hope, and the impact that small daily actions can have on our planet. Each tree represented a promise to future generations, a promise of cleaner air, richer biodiversity, healthier soils, and a greener, more resilient Kenya.

The journey reached its beautiful climax on Day 100, when my friends and I gathered at Tumaini Children's Home and planted 100 Hass avocado trees. It was more than a symbolic celebration; it was an investment in the children's future, providing shade, nutrition, income opportunities, and a lasting reminder that when people come together, extraordinary things happen.

As I look back on this milestone, my heart is filled with gratitude.

To everyone who walked this journey with me, followed my updates, offered words of encouragement, invited me to plant trees in your farms and compounds, and played any role, big or small, in making this dream possible: thank you.

Your support transformed a personal challenge into a shared movement.

Today, many of those trees are thriving. Their roots run deep, their branches are spreading, and their fruits are beginning to tell a story of patience, commitment, and collective action. I went back this afternoon and I was emboldened to see how the fruit trees are doing!

The best time to plant a tree was years ago. The next best time is today.

Let us continue planting hope, one tree at a time.
