Celebrating Grace Wanjiru: A Champion of Earth, Health, and Humanity

On this International Women’s Day, we proudly celebrate one of the remarkable women within our community, Grace, a member of Friends of Ondiri Wetland Kenya whose work continues to inspire change in farming, health, and environmental stewardship.

Grace is the founder of Gracy’s Organiks, a growing organic farming enterprise built on a simple but powerful idea: healthy soil produces healthy food and healthy food builds healthy communities. Through her farm, Grace cultivates a variety of organic produce that reaches families who value fresh, natural and chemical free food. Her brand, also known as Gracy’s Simply Delicious, reflects her philosophy that food should be both nourishing and enjoyable.

What sets Grace apart is not just her farming but her passion for education and advocacy. She has become a strong voice championing organic agriculture, food safety and healthy eating. Through community engagements and campaigns, she encourages families to rethink their relationship with food, to choose fresh produce, support sustainable farmers and protect the environment that sustains us.

In many urban centres across Kenya, including Nairobi, food systems are increasingly dominated by chemically grown produce. Many vegetables and fruits consumed daily are cultivated using heavy chemical fertilizers, pesticides and growth stimulants. While these methods increase production, they often compromise food safety and long term human health. Consumers rarely know how their food was grown, and as a result many families unknowingly consume produce that carries chemical residues. This silent contamination is becoming a growing public health concern as diet related illnesses and lifestyle diseases continue to rise in our cities.

It is within this reality that Grace’s work offers hope. By championing organic farming practices that nurture the soil rather than exhaust it, she provides an alternative path where food is grown naturally and responsibly. Her work reminds communities that safe food begins with healthy land and responsible farming practices. In a world where many people feel their health is increasingly compromised by what they eat, Grace represents a refreshing and necessary return to nature based agriculture.

Grace’s commitment to service extends far beyond agriculture. As a volunteer with the Kenya Red Cross Society, she dedicates time to humanitarian work, responding to community needs and supporting vulnerable people during difficult times. Her life is a powerful example of how one person can bridge environmental care, nutrition awareness and humanitarian service.

In continuing her mission to educate and empower communities, Grace will soon be hosting an important event titled Farmers of Impact: Food Safety and Conservation Talks. The event will take place on 21st March 2026 from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM at Ondiri Wetland. The gathering will bring together farmers, conservationists and community members to discuss the relationship between sustainable farming, safe food systems and environmental conservation.

This event reflects Grace’s belief that food and nature are deeply connected and that protecting ecosystems such as Ondiri Wetland is essential for sustainable agriculture and the wellbeing of future generations.

Grace’s work reminds us that true impact often begins quietly, in a garden bed, in a community conversation or in the simple act of sharing knowledge. Through her farm, her advocacy and her service, she continues to plant seeds of change that will benefit communities for years to come.

For more information about Grace’s organic produce or the upcoming talks, she can be reached directly at +254 746 460 753.

Today we celebrate Grace not only as a farmer but also as a community educator, environmental champion and servant leader. Her journey reflects the spirit of International Women’s Day, a reminder that empowered women cultivate stronger communities and a healthier planet.
