Progress in Action: Preparing the Ground for 10,000 Indigenous Trees

Today, Team Friends of Ondiri Wetland Kenya (FOWK) was at Thogoto Teachers Training College, where we dug thousands of planting holes in readiness for our large-scale indigenous tree-growing exercise scheduled for later this week.
This important activity formed part of our contribution to Kenya's 15 Billion Tree Growing Programme and the Nairobi River Regeneration Project. Together with our partners, we prepared to plant 10,000 indigenous trees across public institutions within a 5-kilometre radius of Ondiri Wetland, restoring degraded ecosystems, protecting vital water catchments, and strengthening climate resilience.
Every hole dug today brought us one step closer to transforming schools and public spaces into thriving green landscapes. Working alongside environmental clubs and institutional partners, we continued to equip young people with practical conservation skills while fostering a culture of environmental stewardship.
With the rains expected later this week, our preparations ensured that every seedling would have the best chance to survive and flourish. The future of our environment is built through today's actions, and together we continued creating a lasting legacy for generations to come.
Every planting hole represented hope. Every indigenous tree to be planted represented a healthier, greener Kenya. Together, we restored nature—one planting hole at a time.
