Today, 6th April 2026 (Easter Monday), Friends of Ondiri Wetland Kenya proudly hosted the first ever Conservation Cycling event in the region. The event brought together both elite and amateur cyclists from across Kenya, marking a significant milestone in promoting sustainable mobility and environmental stewardship.
In the spirit of Easter, we also reflected on the resurrection of Jesus Christ, a powerful symbol of renewal, hope, and new life. This message resonates deeply with our mission, restoring ecosystems, renewing our environment, and inspiring communities to embrace sustainable living for a better future.
We were honored to partner with Joyful Women Organization (JoyWO), an initiative of the First Lady of the Republic of Kenya, H.E. Rachel Ruto, whose office was ably represented by Madam Timona Busolo.
We also extend our sincere appreciation to the legendary David Kinja, an all time Kenyan cycling champion, whose organization, Safari Simbaz, provided invaluable logistical support, including bicycles for the event.
The cycling event featured three categories, 5km, 10km, and 33km. It commenced at Ondiri Wetland and concluded at the Southern Bypass Interchange, where participants also engaged in a tree planting exercise.
The indigenous tree species planted included: Warburgia ugandensis (East African Greenheart), Afrocarpus falcatus (East African Yellowwood), Markhamia lutea (Nile Tulip), Croton megalocarpus.
Winners in each category were awarded medals in recognition of their outstanding performance.
Special thanks go to all participants, the Traffic Department of Kikuyu Police Station, our partners, and the indefatigable team of Friends of Ondiri Wetland Kenya, whose dedication and commitment made this event a resounding success.
Friends of Ondiri Wetland Kenya remains committed to reducing carbon footprints, mitigating climate change, and, most importantly, championing environmental conservation.
